Youth Services Grants

Tecumseh Kiwanis at work! 

Special thank you to all that made the Make-it-Take-it scarecrow building event a success at the AppleUmpkin Festival on Oct. 10 and Oct. 11, 2015. 

The 2015 Kiwanis Scarecrow committee members are Lana Archer, Wendy Brys, Brian and Diane Callaghan, Jeff Seitz and Anne Walker. Additional community contributor is Denine Evans who had volunteered for years to help me with our Sewing group at The Hope Center. Dee helped staff the booth. Sharon and Kim Hawley were involved as they worked with us on the Snapeas give away.

Other club members who helped out during the event were Mary Tommelein, Ken DeRemer,  Lance Ness, Ron Publiski( and grand daughter's Kaylee Ganzhorn, and Alivia Rebartto), Spencer Ruffner, Beth Noden and long time Kiwanis projet supporter Teresa Hursey.  Sharon Wimple and Diane Callaghan- wives of Kiwanis Club members also worked at the event.

 As part of the Kiwanis booth at the recent AppleUmpkin festival in Tecumseh 3,600 Harvest Snaps sample bags were given away. The Kiwanis Club of Tecumseh participated with TABLE FOR TWO , an international organization dedicated to addressing global food imbalance, and the Calbee company to provide a healthy school meal to a hungry child in East Africa and in our local community. Tecumseh Kiwanis is directing the donation of $720 to the Communities In Schools of Tecumseh weekend backpack food program. Many students will have a healthy breakfast over the weekend during the school year because of this donation. Pictured left to right Spencer Ruffner, Sharon Hawley, Anne Walker.

HOPE Center Kiwanis Acktion Club volunteers having sewen over 500 heads for the scarecrow event, came out and worked at the Make-it-Take-it scarecrow event on Saturday for a couple of hours.

 Kiwanis Community Service Committee is collecting the following on a weekly basis.
    Batteries (alkaline may be thrown in the trash)
    Eye Glasses
    Flags to be retired (given to VFW to be retired in their ceremony)
    Old cell phones (given to police for TRIAD of Lenawee County) receipt available on request
    Old, expired, no longer needed medications, no liquids (will be correctly recycled, do not go into landfills)
    Pull tabs given to Aktion Club
    Labels for Education - a list of where to find them is available, ask Lana
    Box Top for Education - a list of where to find them is available, ask Lana
    Containers (24oz and larger)to use for food going to Lenawee County Mission weekly
    Items for donation to Lenawee County Mission - with a note with name etc., you get a receipt.
    Travel size or larger soap, shampoo. deodorant etc.
